New Year Resolutions

Published by Tot's Mom under Blogging

With Christmas over and 2009 approaching fast as I write this post, let me wish everyone a Happy New Year. If you have made any resolutions for the new year, may I wish you every success towards keeping them.

Just for laughs, I saw this compilation of funny new year resolutions at this site:

  • Just for today, I will not sit in my living room all day in my nightdress. Instead, I will move my computer into the bedroom.
  • I will no longer waste my time relieving the past, instead I will spend it worrying about the future.
  • I will not bore my boss by with the same excuse for taking leaves. I will think of some more excuses.
  • I will do less laundry and use more deodorant.
  • I will avoid taking a bath whenever possible and conserve more water.
  • Assure my lawyer that I will never again show up drunk at a custody hearing.
  • I will give up chocolates totally. 100%. Completely. Honestly….
  • I will try to figure out why I *really* need nine e-mail addresses.
  • I will stop sending e-mails to my wife (husband).
  • I resolve to work with neglected children — my own.
  • I will stop sending e-mail, ICQ, Instant Messages and be on the phone at the same time with the same person.
  • I will spend less than one hour a day on the Internet. This, of course, will be hard to estimate since I’m not a clock watcher.
  • I will read the manual… just as soon as I can find it.
  • I will think of a password other than “password.”
  • I will not tell the same story at every get together.
  • I won’t worry so much.
  • I will cut my hair.
  • I will grow my hair.
  • I will stop considering other people’s feelings when they so obviously don’t consider mine - if that unwashed fellow sits next to me again, I’ll tell him he stinks!
  • I will be more imaginative.
  • I will not hang around girls - they think you love them and that sucks.
  • I will not ring the stewardess button on airplanes just to get her phone number.

Talking of new year resolutions, I don’t want to discourage you but Joey Adams once came up with this wish:

May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions.

Further, F.M. Knowles once said:

He who breaks a resolution is a weakling; He who makes one is a fool.

OK, whatever your opinion is on new year resolutions, Happy 2009 to you and your loved ones.

Bathroom Decor

Published by Tot's Mom under Subsidy

One of the most overlooked rooms when it comes to interior decor for our homes has to be the bathroom. Many people don’t really spend that much of an effort to decorate their bathroom probably because it is not a place that we spend too much time in.

However, if you want to spruce it up, you can consider installing new bathroom lighting to make it brighter and classier. Sometimes, it is not only the obvious such as the sink, cabinet or bathtub that needs a change as lighting can also influence the look of the bathroom.

A bathroom certainly need not be a cold and neglected place of the house. All it takes is a little effort and you can have a more beautiful bathroom for the home.

Perils of Dating

Published by Tot's Mom under Relationship

In this era of modern technology, having the means to blog, comment and generally write about anything we want is certainly a great tool to have at our disposal. Many people use the power of the internet to post personal life stories to enlighten, motivate, warn, inspire and cheer up readers from all corners of the globe.

Recently, I came across a website called Don’t Date Him Girl. It has a function that allows members to post details of men that they have dated and found to be a cheater, liar, etc. I guess it is a way to warn other women to stay away from these men, especially in the world of online dating when we are not really sure who the person may be.

In other words, there are many websites out there these days that allow people to write stories and upload pictures of their ex. You can rant about your ex and tell the whole world what kind of person he or she is in the most unflattering manner possible. But what you can do, so can your ex. He or she can also write about you in the worst light for all to see.

During my grandma’s time, if you got dumped, you would probably be hiding in shame and try not to let anyone know. But nowadays, if you break off with someone you end up hating, you can tell the whole world you got cheated, lied to, etc. Times have changed and there are no longer any inhibitions in telling others your private affairs through the internet medium.

Well, that’s the perils of modern dating, I guess. Therefore, if you have dated and dumped someone who is internet savvy, you might just like to google your name and see if it appears anywhere it is not supposed to, courtesy of your ex. :)

GPS Technology

Published by Tot's Mom under Subsidy

Recently, I read about GPS equipment and the various ways it can be used. No doubt it seems very useful to be able to tell us where we are and how we can get to a certain location using the fastest way possible.

I’m impressed that nowadays, GPS technology can also be fitted into mobile phones when it used to be popular among car owners who buy it specifically to be fitted into their cars. Mobile phones with GPS capability are now gaining prominence because people seem to be dependent on them and will always carry them to wherever they are going.

The cost is also becoming more affordable now unlike the past whereby not many are willing to pay that much for the convenience. But now, more and more people are beginning to find it is a useful tool to have and before long, it might just become another necessity in our daily life.

Getting Online Better Than Sex?

Published by Tot's Mom under Family

I know many people would be wondering what is this post all about after reading the title. OK, let me tell you that a survey carried out by a research firm and sponsored by Intel found that almost one out of every two women would rather give up sex for two weeks than to go without access to the internet.

Only 30% of men feel the same while 46% of women would rather choose the web over sex. Also, 61% of women would prefer giving up watching TV than getting online. You can read more here.

Are you surprised by the result? For an internet addict like me, I think I can feel a little relief knowing many, many other women are also hooked on the internet. I guess, it’s kind of a “It’s not only me!” feeling. :)

Anyway, it’s interesting how the research firm even thought of asking respondents to rank internet against sex. Maybe they are seeing a trend that the priorities of people are shifting; that people would rather get online than spend their time in intimate relationships.

I’m sure all of us have had those moments whereby we ignored our partner because we were busy online. Do it often enough and we will end up communicating less and less. Well, one solution could be to cut our internet access. No internet would certain mean more time with our partner, right? But on second thoughts, no internet would probably make me one very grumpy woman. I don’t think my husband would want to see that either! :)

What you Can Do to Lose Weight

Published by Tot's Mom under Family

If you have been thinking of losing weight recently, you would have known that there are now many weight loss programs available in the market to make you lighter and healthier. These programs are actually quite expensive but many people would still pay for a tailored weight loss program in order to look slimmer and healthier.

However, if you do not have that kind of money to spend, you would need to rely on yourself to shed off those extra kilos. You can read books on the subject or search through the web to look for a suitable weight loss plan. Many sites have diet plans to teach you what you should consume for each meal and in what quantities.

You can also search for diet pills and look at what others have to say about the effectiveness and safety of those supplements. It is another option you can consider apart from maintaining a healthy diet and exercise program. After all, losing weight is very much dependent on your own initiative and willpower to have the desired result.

Buying Christmas Gifts for our Kids

Published by Tot's Mom under Parenting

With Christmas gifts fast approaching, I came across this interesting article which states that parents tend to be stressed out buying toys or other gifts for their kids for the holiday season. This is because kids will demand a list of things that they want and if they don’t get them, parents will have to cope with the whining and crying come Christmas morning.

Of course, not everyone will face such problems but I think many families will have this issue because Christmas is getting very commercialized to a certain extent. However, the article does mention that children’s need for material things are often gained from the parents rather than the commercials that they see. In other words, if the parents are materialistic people, the kids will tend to exhibit similar tendencies. In short, they adopt our values.

Therefore, it seems what kids need for Christmas is not more toys but guidance on how to celebrate this festival. Rather than associating Christmas with gifts, the article advises parents to shift the focus on things more meaningful like tradition and the meaning of the celebration.

Timely advice certainly for parents like us who often ponder over what gifts to get for our kids come Christmas.
