Do you Regret Marrying?
Recently, I read somewhere that up to one-quarter of all married people polled say that they wish they had never gotten married in the first place. Interesting statistics, isn’t it, for if so many people regret getting married, why tie the knot in the first place, right?
Nobody says marriage is easy. Marriage means putting up with someone with all of his or her eccentricities, bad habits and whatever else that get on your nerves. It also means commitment, less freedom, tons of compromises, effective communication and loads of patience and understanding. In other words, maintaining a marriage is hard work.
So, it surely isn’t surprising that many actually wish they had never gotten married in the first place. But then again, how many couples nowadays actually jump into a marriage expecting to live happily ever after? I don’t think a quarter of all married folks today are so naive to think that marriage is all about love and romance minus the tears.
Thus, if we all know marriage is difficult, why do we still go on to sign that certificate and then regret it afterwards? I even know of people who are aware that there would be problems down the road and yet get hitched anyway, only to regret their decision a few years later. Perhaps people always like to look at the bright side of things and expect the best and marriage gives us that feeling of hope and optimism.
Anyway, given the results of the poll, it means out of every 100 married people, 25 regret their decision to tie the knot. A big number it is. So, do you belong in the 25 or 75 group?

I would NEVER regret marrying my husband. He’s the love of my life and I don’t know what I would do without him.
I have never regretted as well. You are right, marriage is not easy at all but it can work rather well if both husband and wife could compromise.
no regrets for me
but I do know a few of my friends seemed to have lost that feeling.. unfortunately..

It’s interesting to see that everyone who posted is in the group that does not regret marrying. I wonder if anyone will post that they do regret marrying.
I will say that I don’t regret marrying my husband, but that I wish we had dated longer before we got married. We were very young and I think a little bit of time and perspective would have given us a better start. Those first five years were pretty rough.
I don’t know, maybe we would have come across the same problems even if we waited longer. Who knows?
I’m just very lucky he puts up with me. Hopefully he doesn’t regret his decision!
