Polygamy And Life
Recently, I read a short article which mentioned a research published in New Scientist magazine concerning polygamy. It seems research indicates that men from polygamous cultures tend to live up to 12% longer than those from monogamous societies. The reasons being both social and genetic. The explanation is if you have more than one wife, you also tend to have more children, even at an older age. This forces a man to stay healthy because of the number of dependents.
So, polygamists live longer, it seems. But I find it strange since I do know of a few men with more than one wife. Even my own dad says it is stupid for men to have more than one woman in his life. It gives rise to more problems than a man can handle.
Consdering that men tend to see women as nagging creatures, imagine having two or more women in your life nagging you everyday. Doesn’t that drive a man up the wall? Furthermore, in these modern times, coping with two or more households with a bunch of children doesn’t seem like a good way to lengthen one’s life. At least to me, unless I’m missing something here.
If the wives get along, well and good. But if they don’t, it would be further headaches for the man, which can only mean more stress hearing one complaining about the other all the time.
So, polygamists really live longer? I’m amazed!

It may not apply in our culture - like wat u’ve said, men can’t handle too many nagging wives. Women = char bou (trouble). hehehe But probably in a society where poligamy is acceptable or widely practised, men do live longer?

I think regardless of any positive aspects for men, polygamy in our current culture/society subjugates women and leads to the abuse of children. Men who practice it should be prosecuted.
