How Much Should you Reveal?
A question from JM of Long Relationships who have now taken over my Love Q duties:
Do you/would you blog about personal things that include other people? Where do you draw the line (if anywhere) for what is and isn’t too personal?
A good question for bloggers like us who like to talk about our daily life. I don’t think there can be any agreement about what is and isn’t too personal. After all, different people do have different standards and we also need to take into account the different circumstances for each of us. For instance, if I write that someone I know is having an extra-marital affair, it would be ok for a lot of my readers but for the person concerned, it might well be a betrayal of some sort.
So, to me, the easy thing to do is if you are going to have a personal blog and you know that you are going to write stuff in there that may reveal a little too much, just don’t tell anyone that you know the existence of your blog. My philosophy is keep it to yourself, be anonymous and that way, no one will get offended.
Going by this philosophy, none of my family members nor ex-colleagues know about this blog of mine. Imagine the horror if some of my stories get read by them and they can identify whom I’m talking about. My husband knows about this blog though, but then, he doesn’t bother to read what I write. So, I guess I can complain about him all I want in here without any dire consequences!
