When Cancer Strikes

Published by Tot's Mom at 11:54 am under Subsidy

When we talk about mesothelioma, I’m reminded of a granduncle who died of the disease. It was a long time ago when medical research into this ailment was still not as advanced as today and the support for family of patients was also not as strong.

When the diagnosis was revealed, it was a terrible ordeal for both my granduncle as well as his wife who have to go through the painful experience of seeing her beloved husband fighting a losing battle. So, when it comes cancer, relatives and friends’ support are very important, not only for the patient himself but also immediate family members that are affected by the sad news.

For my grandaunt, relatives rallied to her side to give her emotional support as well as helping her to take care of my granduncle in his final few months. I think it gave her the strength to face each day as there was always someone to talk to during that difficult period in her life. I guess for cancer patients and their families, a little compassion from everyone around them will go a long way in helping them face whatever challenges that lie ahead.
